Adding YouTube Videos To Your Site

We’ve just gone ahead and added a new feature to the clever little sites – using this new feature you can now put videos from YouTube directly onto your site’s pages.

Here we’ve created a brief, step-by-step guide to demonstrate how you do it – it’s pretty straightforward though! Click “Read More” to see it.

All of these images can be clicked on for a larger version.

Step One:

1. Copy the Youtube code...

1. Copy the Youtube code...

Look up the YouTube video you want to add to your page. Use YouTube’s tools to show their “embed code”, and copy it to your clipboard by right-clicking your mouse on it and choosing “copy”.

Step Two:

2. Click the video button on your toolbar

2. Click the video button on your toolbar

Log into your clever little site and choose the page you want to put the video on. On the toolbar, click the Insert Youtube Video Code button. It’s on the left hand side of the toolbar, and looks like the Youtube logo. On this screenshot it’s a little film strip, but we’ve changed that to make it easier to spot.

Now it looks like this:

Step Three:

3. Paste the code into the window provided

3. Paste the code into the window provided

When the box comes up, right click in the top box and choose “Paste” from the popup menu to paste the YouTube code from your clipboard into it.

Step Four:

4. Click the preview area to see a preview

4. Click the preview area to see a preview

If you can’t already see one, click on the Preview box below to see a preview of the video. If everything’s okay, you should see your chosen video appear (we’ve picked one of our favourite adverts for this demonstration). Click the Insert button when you’re happy with what you see.

Step Five:

5. You will see where your video will appear

5. You will see where your video will appear

On your page, you will see a pale yellow box appear. This is where the video will appear when you’ve saved the page. When you’re editing, videos will show up as these pale boxes to make things a little clearer. You can also use the handles that appear around the edges of the box to resize the video – just like you can with images.

What do you think? Pretty neat huh?

We’d love to hear what you think of this new addition, and see how you are using it – so do let us know, either in the comments box below or on the clever little forum.
